Report on 2018 West Coast Showcase Canada

The tenth annual West Coast Showcase camp was held Saturday October 6th at Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia under the direction of Matt McKay from Sands High School.

Top Prospects: (*indicates highest consideration)

6’6 CF Leroy Adderly of BC Christian Prep 2019

Adderly is a long and athletic combo forward with fairly good strength. He finishes well, has an ok pull-up game and is a fair shooter.

 

*6’6 S F Jaxon Cohee of St. George’s School 2020 (Team Blanco)

Cohen is a wing with a solid all-around game. He’s a solid ball handler who takes care of the ball and he has good vision as a passer. He can make plays in transition and has a nice pull up game in the half court. His best asset is his ability to drive to the basket and finish. Cohee does need to show more consistency as a perimeter shooter.

 

6’5 CF Delwin Hothi of Seaquam HS 2019 (Team Blanco)

Hothi is a versatile combo forward. He’s an ok ball handler who can dribble operate on the block and has a solid floater shot. He is also a decent defender and a good rebounder.

 

5’10 PG Kyle Houston of Kelowna Christian HS 2022 (Team Muhic)

Houston is a promising young point guard with a solid offensive game. He is a confident ball handler and passer who has a pull up game in the half court. He penetrates into the lane ok and has a decent floater shot.

 

6’6 P Geevon Janday of GW Graham HS 2019 (Team Muhic)

Janday is a post man who can play inside or outside. He can bounce it some and can score on the face up drive. He’s also a solid rebounder.

 

6’3 W Varris Janda of Tamawanis HS 2020 (Cats 2)

Janda is a wing man with a versatile skills set. He handles and passes it fairly well and is a solid playmaker in transition. He can score from the perimeter, with a pull up mid-range and on the drive.

 

5’8 PG Masahi Kai of BC Christian Prep 2019

Kai is a true point-guard who can run a team. He makes good decisions and makes the right pass consistently. He can shoot it some and also anticipates well defensively.

 

6’2 CG Tegbir Kainth of Tamawanis HS 2020 (Cats 1)

Kainth is a combo guard with some promise. He can run a team and also has some ability to score in a half-court setting.

 

6’10 C Jeff Ma of BC Christian Prep 2019

Ma is a five man with long arms and good footwork on the block. He is a little mechanical but is a difficult matchup. He is an ok rebounder in his box.

 

 

*6.0 G/W Harry Oghomienor of BC Christian Prep 2021

Oghomienor is a very athletic guard with quickness and leaping ability. He can handle the ball and has a nice first step on the drive. He has the strength to finish against contact. He shoots it ok with long range and he is a lockdown defender. Oghomienor is doing a nice job turning into complete player.

 

6’5 G/W Jeevan Sidhu of Tamowanis HS 2019 (Cats 1)

Sidhu is a versatlie guard/wing who has the ability to play on or off the ball. He makes play on the break with solid passing skills. He goes hard on the drive and can finish with either hand.

 

6’1 SG Armaan Shoker of GW Graham HS 2019 (Team Blanco)

Shoker is a competitive and intense two guard. He’s a competent ball handler with a pull up game in the half court and can shoot it some with 3-range. He is a good communicator who knows how to play.

 

6’1 SG Anmol Shoker of GW Graham 2019 (Team Sodhan)

Shoker is a team guy with natural leadership. He’s a two guard with a variety of skills who maximizes what he has.

 

6’2 SG Spencer Simeao of Claremont HS 2020 (Team Muhic)

Simeao is a hard-working two guard who can run the floor. He finishes in transition, moves without the ball in the half court and is a capable defender.

 

5’10 CG Jackson Thackwray of AR MacNeil HS 2021 (Machoops)

Thackwray is a combo guard who knows how to play and impacts the game in various ways. He makes plays in transition and in the half court for himself and others.

 

*6’6 SF Luke Tobias of Sir Charles Tupper HS 2021 (Team Sodhan)

Tobias is a bright prospect who fared well at this event. He’s a small forward with long arms who has a nice skill set. He’s a capable ball handler and passer who has a middle game in the half court. He is an ok (set) shooter with 3-point range. He is also a fairly good rebounder. Tobias could use some physical strength to prepare for the next level.

 

6’4 SF Cole Wicker of GW Graham HS 2019 (Team Muhic)

Wicker is a wing with a nice all-around skills set. He can score at all three levels (perimeter, mid-range, at the rim) and has capable ball handling skills.

 

6’0 SG Drew Williams of Kelowna Christian HS 2022 (Team Sodhan)

Williams is a young two guard who can score with a pull up, a floater or a perimeter shot (with 3 range). He shows promise at the offensive end.

 

6’0 PG Ethan Williams on Mount Boucherie HS 2020 (Team Sodhan)

Williams is a one-man with an all-around game. He works hard defensively, has a nice first step on the drive and shoots it ok with 3-point range.

Game Rules

  • Games are twenty minutes with running clock. Stop clock the last minute of the game according to regular high school rules.

 

  • Bonus situation on common fouls the last five minutes of the game (one shot for two points).

 

  • In shooting foul situation: one shot for two or three points (depending on the attempt).

 

  • When fouled in the act of shooting and the shot goes in: three points are awarded (two for the basket, one for the foul shot) and no foul shot is taken.

 

  • When fouled on a three-point attempt and shot goes in: four points are awarded (no foul shot)

 

  • Three-minute warm-up between games.

 

  • One technical foul is automatic ejection for player.

 

  • Points for technical foul are automatic (no shots taken).

 

  • One 30-second time out per game.

 

  • Overtime is sudden death. First team to score one point is the winner. No time outs.
